If you are a writer who is trying to figure out how to launch your career, you need to attend a writer's conference. You'll meet editors and agents face to face; you'll receive solid instruction about how to craft your book proposal or query letter (and so much more); and you'll make lifelong friendships with people in the industry.
Tama and I are on staff with the CLASS Christian Writer's Conference. This year it is going to be held at the Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, NM--a place that was just featured in the Wall Street Journal--and we're really looking forward to it. In addition to the beautiful surroundings, we have an incredible faculty. Here is a list of just the continuing classes (I've included links to their websites so you can see how prolific they are:
Nancy Moser - Fiction Track
Bucky Rosenbaum - Nonfiction Track
Karen Porter - Advanced Career Track
Jeannie St. John Taylor - Children's Track
Jerome Daley - Writing for the Next Generation
Craig von Buseck - Technology / Writing for the Web
DiAnn Mills - Advanced Fiction Mentoring (Limited to 8)
Laura Bagby - Get Published Now
Alex Kendrick (from Facing the Giants and Fireproof) will be the keynote speaker.
This list doesn't even include the individual classes that are being offered.
If you are a little leery of jumping into such an event because you are afraid you might not get your money's worth or that you don't know howa writer's conference works, we've got you covered. Author Ron Benson and I will be teaching several workshops called On-Ramp the day before the conference officially begins that will cover all the basic information you'll need to get the most out of the conference.
If you sign up by October 15, you'll save $50.00. You can read more about the conference (and register for it) by clicking here. Hope to see you there!
